The History of Chilapata Wildlife Sanctuary

Chilapata Wildlife Sanctuary was formerly a deep forest in West Bengal, India's Dooars. Its illustrious past stretches back to the 5th century AD, when the Gupta Empire dominated the region. It was ruled by the Kamata Kingdom in the 13th century. It was then administered by the Kingdom of Bhutan before becoming a British colonial reserve forest in the early twentieth century. It was designated a wildlife sanctuary in 1998 to conserve the region's significant biodiversity. The forest is currently a well-known tourist attraction due to its rich fauna, woods, and visual splendor.
