The History of Dakshineswar Kali Temple

Dakshineswar Kali Temple was built in the mid-19th century by Rani Rashmoni, a prominent philanthropist and devotee of the goddess Kali. She wished to build a temple dedicated to Maa Kali and searched for a suitable location after a vision of the goddess. She chose Dakshineswar as the site of the temple, which was a tiny village on the banks of the Hooghly river. Construction of the temple began in 1847 and was completed in 1855. On 31st May 1855, the idol of Goddess Kali was installed in the temple, and around 1 lakh brahmins were invited to the occasion.
