The History of Jaigaon

Jaigaon, a town in the Alipurduar district of West Bengal, has a rich and diverse history. Indigenous tribes such as the Mech, Rava, and Toto formerly lived there. During the British rule in India, the area was a part of the Bhutan Duars and was used as a trade route between Bhutan and India. After India gained independence in 1947, the region became a part of the Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal.
