The History of Rabindra Sarobar

Rabindra Sarobar was originally a large waterbody known as Dhakuria Lake. In the early 20th century, the lake was beautified and renovated under the supervision of the British Governor of Bengal, Lord Carmichael. In 1953, the lake was further developed into a park by the Calcutta Improvement Trust (CIT) and named Rabindra Sarobar as Rabindranath Tagore frequently visited the lake for inspiration.

The park covers an area of approximately 192 acres and is a popular destination for picnics, boating, and other outdoor activities. The park is also known for its ecological importance.
